We took Mangia tool sets to China, where knives and forks are not always available. The knife, fork and spoon pack neatly into the plastic cover, and a set is not too heavy to carry around. The cover could be a tad larger - it is a snug fit, and the cover on one of our sets cracked when snapped shut when the implements were not quite nested together perfectly. The cover was handy following a meal, when the cover could be snapped over the implements and the food residue was prevented from making a mess inside a pocket or purse. I purchased a set of these for myself and a coworker so we could stop using the plastic utensils the office provides. The knife is awesome as often a plastic knife or fork would break when trying to cut up salads. This little set is quite sturdy thus, I highly recommend it.

I agree with others, the clamshell cover could be sturdier however; the first one lasted about 6 months with almost daily use. I called the manufacturer and was able to order replacement covers so we're all set there! Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

I bought this set to bring to work with lunch and I'm quite happy with it. The knife is the main unit, it has a hollow rectangular tube for a handle, and the knife blade is set kitty corner in the tube leaving a triangular slot on either side of the blade you slide the spoon and fork handles into for storage, you then have a plastic clamshell cover that you fit over the heads of the utensils so you don't get any leftover lunch smeg on whatever you are storing the unit in, and the cover has a couple of plastic snaps to secure the cover over the utensils.

It is a decent solid set of utensils that won't bend or break under normal use. The size of the fork and spoon are a little smaller than a normal sized salad fork and teaspoon, but they are big enough so you don't really notice the size difference. The one design flaw I've found with this and is what lowers it to four stars instead of five is the clamshell cover.

It's made out of a brittle plastic that I've already managed to crack after only two weeks of it bouncing around in my backpack. A strip of duck tape fixed it easily enough, but it also has 3 thin plastic hinges on it that will eventually break. The two clamshell halves are held together at the top by a plastic hinge, and once you insert the utensils in the cover and close it, there are two more plastic tabs with hinges that snap into the other half of the clamshell to hold it closed on the other end. I'm figuring I'll get about a year of daily use out of it before the cover is all duck tape and held closed by rubber bands. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

Good qulity silverware for a reasonable price. After more than a year of daily use and frequent trips in the dishwasher, there is no rust or scratches . The finish is understated and elegantly smooth. It's easy to clean because there are no grooves or crevices where food gets trapped.
I've had lesser silverware that deforms (bends and then breaks), dents (creating an uneven or even jagged eating surface for your mouth), or simply come new with sharp metallic edges.

We had looked for some time for a simple flatware. This set has a matt finish and is stainless. The edges are eased and the pieces are comfortable to the hand. We had found this set at a Great Indoors and thought it was on sale but it was not. Decided we liked the style and decided to look on line. We paid almost half the in store price. I bought the Icarus set at Bed Bath and Beyond after falling in love with my mom's couple year old set. While I love the looks and especially the weight of the pieces, I'm extremely disappointed.

First thing I noticed out of the box was like some other reports, some of the handles were actually sharp on the back edges. Secondly, on several pieces, the curve between the fork and handle and spoon and handle is very rough - almost as rough as the inner portion of the fork tines. I figured that I could live with it since I loved the set otherwise.

Less than a month of use later (including being washed promptly in the dishwasher with regular non citrus/no bleach Cascade) I noticed that not only were the inner fork tines rusting, but several of the knife blades were as well. Closer inspection revealed that nearly all of the pieces with rough surface (spoons, knives and forks) had rust on the rough spots and half of the knives had a spot of rust on the handle - in the exactly same spot just underneath the place/date of manufacture stamp.

So why can a 3 week old set be rusting when a couple of years old set look brand new? I realized that beyond the fact that the factory in China that produced my set in June of 08 apparently didn't know what "quality control" meant, the set my mom had was different from mine and others that have had problems.

I asked my mom to see if her set had a date stamp - it didn't, but WAS stamped 18/10 Oneida China. I'd assumed (you know what they say about that) that mine was 18/10 and couldn't remember even noting if the box said 18/10 or not, but my set has no 18/10 stamp on the pieces and according to the Oneida US site, the Icarus is now 18/0. Oneida UK still lists the 18/10 Icarus.

While the 18/0 may account for the rust, the other issues are just related to absolutely no quality control and corners being cut in manufacturing. I'm really disappointed in Oneida - they used to be a decent brand. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

I purchased this flatware after an exhaustive search for new everyday stainless. Many of the reviews posted referred to the nice weight and simple styling of the design. All true. However, I should have paid more attention to the couple of reviews discussing rust spots. After the very first wash every grooved piece (forks and knives) were covered in ugly orange rust spots. These were washed in a two year old Fisher & Paykel dishwasher with powder detergent arranged as specified in the manufacturer's care instructions. I spent over an hour using stainless polish to try to remove the spots (it is impossible to remove them completely) and then rewashed only to have the exact same result. These went back pronto! It was a real disappointment from a brand like Oneida. It is clear that there was a defect in the manufacturing process. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews


My fiance and I had a hard time looking for flatware that we both liked. We wanted something simple, elegant, and classic. That's what we found with the Oneida Icarus pattern.

This pattern goes with everything. Given this is our first complete set of flatware, we wanted something that would go with everything. In the future, we can buy a set with more design or one that we want specifically for a table setting (holidays, etc.)

The flatware is a bit larger and heavier than most other sets; it doesn't feel cheap or bendable. This pattern is available at a number of retailers so I would suggest taking a trip to the store to hold, feel, and examine this flatware.

Dishwasher safe, though we've had some problems with spotting - but that is probably due to the dishwasher we have. No tarnishing or other marks to speak of.

The set we received as a gift was not from Amazon. Ours included a five piece bonus serving set of two large serving spoons, one large slotted serving spoon, a large serving fork, and a sugar spoon. I do not believe this one contains the same - it would be a good idea to contact Amazon or Macy's to find out.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this set based upon its quality and price. It's your own decision whether or not you like the pattern. :) Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

I guess these would be OK to take on a picnic or a packed lunch, but they are just too light for me to feel comfortable using them every day at home. The plastic is much lighter than the stainless, thus they feel 'unbalanced' and insubstantial. I wanted flatware that's not "flat," but this, although cute looking, just doesn't fit the bill. I bought this flatware set because it had vibrant colors and would match my dinnerware set. Also I would know instantly if I threw away the flatware by mistake when clearing away the dishes. It is easy to see which spoons or forks were missing instantly by looking at the hanging rack that comes with it. Unfortunately, the silver ball on the end of the flatware is made of plastic and with little use cracked and came off easily. The silver ball on the tip had to be made of metal and secured much better so it wouldn't have cracks. Now I have to prop it up on the rack instead of have it hanging with the rest of the flatware from the set. Otherwise it is comfortable to use, grips easily in your hand. I bought this set with some reserve given the price. Item arrived in time and perfectly packed; upon opening the flatware was exactly as pictured, very nice, smooth and shiny, no flaws; some pieces were stained by the plastic they came wrapped in, no problem after cleaning with silver polish, just as new. They are a little bit lighter than I would have liked, but still that does not take away the nice looks of this set. I would recommend it with eyes closed. The set fits nicely into the wooden box. After e-mailing this store and asking for expedited delivery, I received the set in time for Easter. It is a truly beautiful set, however after washing it in the dishwaster, it came out tarnished after only one use. I had to use silver polish to clean it. I e-mailed Reed & Barton and was asked to send them a piece of the set. They acted as though they hadn't a clue as to why this happened. Note: I have had a William Rogers set for almost 50 years, using it several times a year and cleaning them in the dishwasher. No problem! Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

. I wish the pieces were little heavier, but otherwise for the money this is a perfect set. It looks very expensive. My only gripe is that the flatware pieces do not say "silver plated" on them and there was no authenticity certificate or any documentation regarding the flatware. The box comes with an official Reed and Barton certificate of quality. I have no doubt that the flatware is silver plated, you can definitely tell. I just wish it came with documentation.
